The Start of Term 2

7 May 2012

Well we are already into week 3 of term 2.

We have Cross country next Wednesday and the students have been training for this event. Due to the earthquake damage in the domain we will be running within the school grounds.

May is also NZ music month and we are looking at a NZ song each day. If you have a song that you think the class should listen to send Ryan an email on ryan@snbs.school.nz. You can check out the songs we have enjoyed on our NZ mucis month page.

Almost the end of Term 1

Thursday 29 March

Well we have almost got to the end of term 1 and what a busy term it has been. This term we have the theme "My Strength". While studying this the class has looked at types of strength. For example mental and physically strength. They have also learnt what made Sir Edmund Hillary strong. Now they are looking at what makes their own hero strong.

This term the class have completed a number of weaving tasks which are displayed at the back of the classroom. Some of them will be displayed around the school as part of "art Attack".

We had a number of students represent the school at the East Zone Swimming Sports and the Canterbury Primary Schools Triathlon. I am stoked to have students taking up these opportunities as well as others things such as J Rock and choir.

We have started training for our school cross country which is next term. You can see how each students training is going by looking at our Cross Country Training page from the link below.

Still really busy and NZ book month

Monday 19 March

Well it does not seem to slow down for everyone in Room 18. We are working extremely
hard and I think we are enjoying most of it. March is NZ Book Month and to celebrate each reading group is producing an audio book based on a NZ picture book. I hope that we will be able to post these on this page very soon. As well as this everyone went home with a $5 book voucher.

Over the next 2 weeks we will be doing a lot of standardised testing (PAT, Asttle, Star etc.). This data takes a little bit of time to be looked at and will be shared with parents and caregivers at learning conferences.

I have added a new current event quiz page to our website. This is an extra homework task for people who want to take it on. You could turn it into a bit of a competition in your house. I am happy to mark extra test papers at school and I will post the answers online the following week. if you want to have a look at quiz page click on the link below.

Halfway through Term 1

5 March 2012

We are already halfway through the first term and what a busy start to the year.

Last Wednesday the students really enjoyed the fun afternoon at school put on by the Youth Alive Trust. If you want to check out a short video showing what the students got up to during this event check out the link.

Our swimming sport at Jellie Park were very successful and the students from Room 18 that competed did extremely well with a number of them qualifying to represent the school at the zone swimming sport this Friday.

Spelling will be tested at school every Tuesday so be sure to ask the students where their spelling words are. They also have a current events task to complete, go to the homework page for information on this.

The class have been working on greeting and number in maori. Next Monday we are going to have a quiz on these so if you want to work on them with the students here thay are.

Another busy week

24 February 2012

We have had another very busy week and have been able to achieve a lot. I hope that everyone is well on track with their homework and will have it ready to share on Tuesday.

Next week along with the next homework task students will get their spelling words and basic facts. These should be practiced everyday and will be tested at school weekly.

The students should have brought home their Learning Folio to share their goals and set a goal with their caregivers. Please try to have this completed and back at school by Tuesday.

On Thursday the class voted for their Student council representatives. Congratulations to Cory Malzard and his two deputies Tegan Kinsman-Harding and Anna Shine.

Next week we also have our school swimming sports. The competitive students will be swimming in the 25m and 50m events at Jellie Park and everyone else will be taking part in flutter board activities at school.
