Canine Educators

South New Brighton School's Canine Educator programme has become an integral, unique and very popular aspect of our school community.

We have 6 dogs (owned by teachers) who regularly attend school at SNBS. Each dog has demonstrated competence in obedience and temperament by a professional dog obedience expert. Each dog wears a South New Brighton School ‘uniform' and their uses vary from classroom to classroom.

Breeds represented among our Canine Educators include bichon frise, miniature schnauzer, golden retriever... even a greyhound! They are extremely popular with children and adults alike.

We believe there are many benefits to children from having dogs in classrooms. Children are given the opportunity to develop skills in dog safety, taking responsibility for a pet and developing empathy and sensitivity to the needs of others.

We at South New Brighton School are very proud of this unique and valuable aspect of our school.
